First off, this is a blank check:

In the “Pay to the order of” field, you will write who it will be payable to. Use a name, don’t ever write it out to cash. Doing that means that anyone can cash your check. So many times when I see people write a check out to another person, I see cash as the one who it is payable to. Bad habit, so when writing a check out, write it exactly to that person or business.

You will then write in today’s date in the “Date” field. Write in the day, for example “9-27-08″ “September 27, 2008″, whatever day it might be when writing out the check. Do not write it for yesterday’s date, or tomorrow’s date (pre-date or post-date), as you might run into legal issues when your payee wants to redeem your check. You must fill in the date, you cannot leave it blank.

Underneath the payee’s name, which was filled out in the previous step, you will see a line. In that line you will write out in written form, the amount you are paying your “payee”. This is one of the most important parts of the check. You have to write out exactly how much you are paying, for example, “One Hundred dollars and no/100″ “Twenty-five dollars and 72/100″. At the payees bank, the teller will redeem the check for whatever amount is written there, no matter what is written in the box you will fill in on the next step.

In the box you see on the right of the check, you will enter the numerical amount you are paying the payee, for example, “100.00″ “25.72″.

The last step is to sign your name on the bottom right line of the check. This is another important part of the check. When you sign there, you make the check legally binding to the payee and allow them to redeem that check for the exact written amount.

Optional is filling out the “memo” line. Usually you can write what the purchase was for (for you to remember), or for a message to the payee.

3. Good Blog Design - I cannot emphathise this enough. The way your blog is designed will either make or break your blog. There are many themes and designs out there, so you need to be selective and choose the one that fits your style and niche, but is also appealing to the audience as well. Colors play a big factor in this. I’ve mentioned this as well all the way back in Episode #39, and the topic of color branding in Episode #41.

4. On Site Branding - This is key to distinguishing yourself from the crowd. If you cannot effectively brand your blog in your blog (roundabout way of saying this), you will become part of the crowd and not the leader. Think of a big crowd with everyone wearing grey. Looks bland doesn’t it? Now imagine one person in that crowd wearing a bright yellow shirt. Who will your eyes be drawn to?

5. Make Your Blog Personal - Having that personal touch is what makes your blog your own. Your style of writing, personality, and connection with the audience can drive your site in a powerful way. The audience have someone they can relate to and trust, all of which drives people to your site and create a 2-way conversation.

22. Traffic tends to Gravitate towards Mature Posts

Notice I didn’t say old posts. These are posts that have been around for a while and still stand the test of time and keep drawing an audience to it. Its one of the foundational posts of your blog. I have noticed on my site that many visit the archives and not the most recent post. It puzzled me for sometime until I found out that I hit something that created an interest beyond what I thought. It happens alot in the blogosphere, but that just one of the perks of new media ;).

Stay tuned……

First off, my computer went through a massive crash in October and November. I had my computer in the shop for 2 weeks and didn’t get it back till November 9. Turns out what happened is that my Power Supply, Motherboard, and Graphics Card all went bad. I now have basically 95% of my entire computer replaced, as my cd-rom drive broke, and we thought that the memory and/or hard drive was the problem (which is wasn’t, but I have more memory and HD space now).

Secondly, I now have a job. I work part time as a stocker and my local food store. I was employed on October 17. That has been taking up chunks of time I would usually spend on researching and recording. That might be changing soon as I am pursing a full-time job at another place.

Finally, my Grandfather (my mom’s dad) just passed away yesterday morning. We have been taking care of him for a while now as he has been having problems with his feet. He lives near our house, which makes it easy to keep an eye on him. He just came out of surgery Tuesday (he went in for vein bypass in the left leg), and my entire family was over that evening watching a movie with him. It seems he died about an hour after we left. The doctor said that he might have either died naturally, blood clot to the heart or brain, or a small heart attack. He was in the military for a time, but was never deployed, and was a long time mail carrier for the Postal Service. This is a hard time on our family this holiday season, so keep us in your prayers.
